First Presbyterian Church of Livermore
For First Presbyterian Church of Livermore, welcome is more than something written on a sign or printed in a church bulletin. It is something the congregation works to put into practice.
First Presbyterian describes itself as an “open & inclusive community” that celebrates all people as made in the image of God. The church says it “fully welcomes and includes ALL people – as visitors, as members, as leaders & as pastors.”
That welcome extends explicitly to the LGBTQ+ community.
In a 2025 interview with The Presbyterian Outlook, Rev. Jamie White described the LGBTQ+ community as an ordinary and valued part of the congregation. “We have LGBTQ+ people on our church staff, serving as elders, deacons, and volunteering in every area of ministry,” she said. “Our queer siblings are just a regular and normal part of our family.”
For a Pride Passport community, that distinction matters. Inclusion isn't simply about inviting people through the doors. It is about making sure people can participate fully in the life of a congregation, as members, leaders, volunteers, and friends.
First Presbyterian's own description of its faith reflects that philosophy. The church says that “the unconditional love of God is precisely that…without condition!” It also emphasizes that faithful people can have different perspectives and that beliefs are best demonstrated through actions.
Those actions extend well beyond Sunday worship.
First Presbyterian has a long history of community service and hands-on mission work. The congregation has supported local refugee families, volunteered with schools and nonprofits, participated in food-packing projects, and helped build homes in Mexico. Each year, church members also partner with Kids Bike Lane to build bicycles for underserved and at-risk youth in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
The church has a banner that reads, “A church is not a place where, but a people who.” It is a fitting description of a congregation that sees faith as something lived out in relationship with neighbors and the broader community.
That sense of community is also central to the church's everyday life. First Presbyterian offers small groups, fellowship opportunities, children's and student ministries, music and worship programs, and opportunities for members to get involved in mission and service. The church invites people wherever they are on their faith journey to find a place within the community.
For LGBTQ+ people who have experienced exclusion in religious spaces, finding a faith community where they can participate fully can be especially meaningful.
That wide welcome is what makes First Presbyterian Church of Livermore a meaningful addition to the Livermore Pride Passport. Their support of LGBTQ+ people is part of a broader commitment to welcome, community, service, justice, and putting faith into action.
We are proud to welcome First Presbyterian Church of Livermore to the Pride Passport and grateful for the role they play in building a Livermore where people of every identity can find community, connection, and a place to belong.
